Alone In The Dark

Alone In The Dark

Alone in the dark, tonight I stand
A lost and lonely, broken man
Seeking for a hand to hold
Seeking a mending of my soul.

I turn that way and I turn this
Yearning for a devouring kiss
Craving for a sweet caress
To calm the storming in my chest.

It hurts, the wounding that I feel
When my eyes saw love was not real
Just an illusion, a butterfly
A glimpse in the corner of my eye.

That touched me with a smile so fair
And left me bewildered, standing there
Not knowing right, not knowing wrong
But hearing snippets of your song.

The song, I know, you wrote for me
Beneath the weeping willow tree
When our eyes met and our hearts clove
And my soul knew I'd found my love.

And I held to that lovely prize
That I thought lived there in your eyes
But, alas, that gift was not to be
When you took that love away from me.

And here I stand in the dark alone
Still not accepting that you're gone
Not accepting the pain or the cut of the lies
That ripped me to ribbons with the cold of your eyes.

I stand here alone in the dark  by myself
Wondering if there is any love left
But all I feel are teardrops rolling down off my face
And of your beautiful love song, I hear only a trace.

And the sound of your laughter in the cold midnight breeze
Ever the temptress, ever the tease
You don't know what love is, you don't have a clue
How to love me in earnest but you know I love you.

So I wait in the cold as the snow's falling down
And it molds to my form and I freeze to the ground
Just a sad frozen sight, a heartbroken snow man
With his eyes full of tears, and his bare outstretched hands.

Reaching to you who cannot reach for me
Looking for you who will not look at me
Living and loving  but loving unknown
Crying and dying in the dark all alone.

On The Wind

On The Wind

I left some words out on the wind

A whispered prayer, and said "amen"

I spoke into my hands and sighed

And then released them to the sky.

I saw your face there in the moon

For just a moment and none too soon

All day I'd hungered for your smile

To come and warm me for awhile.

I heard the voices in the trees

I felt the soft, sweet touch of breeze

It touched my hair, it touched my cheek

I was so moved, I couldn't speak.

Leaning back upon my  door

My heart was full but needed more

The day was done, the night was long

My ears were longing for your song.

Do you not see? Do you not know?

My heart's with you wherever you go

A hundred lifetimes, a hundred ages

You're written here on my life's pages.

How my soul yearns, my body burns

Do you not feel me? Do you discern?

I need to hold you. I need to say

The words to make you come and stay.

Morning comes with rain and still I stand

Holding lonely in my hand

My words are out there flying free

Listen, my love. Can't you hear me?

Sweet Baby

My Very Favorite Prince Song

"Sweet Baby"

"You want to be my sweet baby?"

You asked shyly
And I hung my head
And nodded
Because I was shy, too

And that was how it started,

How it began
With me and you
Slowly and shyly
And oh, so sweetly.

When I feel sad or down

I think of that day
When you called me "Sweet baby"
For the first time
And I always smile.

For I had waited for ever

For someone to notice me
And talk to me
And learn how sweet I could be.

For someone to walk with me

And hold my hand
And look into my eyes
Like they could see into my soul.

But everyone just passed me by

Like I was invisible
And never said a word
And every day I just got lonelier
And lonelier.

Till I saw you

Standing there alone yourself
Looking like you didn't have nothing
And nobody
And no where to go.

And I waited and waited

And I prayed and prayed
That you would look my way
But you never did
So I took matters into my own hands.

I marched right over

To where you were leaning against the store
And I went right up to you
Like I had good sense
And I said, "Hello."

And you jumped out of your skin

And said, "Who, me?"
And I said, "I don't see nobody else here."
And you stood there very quietly
For about five very long minutes.

"I'm sorry." you finally said

"But I've been watching you every day
Since I moved to this town
And I thought you were the prettiest girl
I had ever seen in my life!"

"I can't believe you're speaking to me

Or that you even knew I was alive
So I guess it scared me too death
When you came over and said hello
'Cause I was just standing here dreaming."

And that is how I learned that boys

Are strange but then so are girls
For we have no idea that anyone feels
The way we do or dreams the dreams we do
Because we are too afraid to ask.

And we became inseparable

From that day to this
And we walked and we talked
And we learned all about one another
And found out how much we were alike.

Then one day you had to go out of town

For the summer
And you didn't want to go and I didn't want you to
And we stood there at the bus station
With tears in our eyes like big ole babies.

That's when you called me your sweet baby

And I told you I would wait for you
And write you every day if you wanted me to
And that I would miss you with all my heart
And you gave me that necklace with the heart on it.

That was the longest three months of my life

And I know it was hard for you too
But sometimes it's good to be apart
Because then you learn just how much
You love somebody.

My mama teased me all summer

And asked me why I was moping around
"Over that lil ole boy"
And telling me I needed to take off that necklace
At least when I took a bath.

But I wouldn't do it and I wouldn't let go of it

I held onto it with all my soul
And I was holding onto it when you came back home
But what I didn't know was that you had left a boy
And you stepped off that old bus, a man.

"How's my sweet baby?" you called

And pulled me into your arms
Like somebody drowning holds onto a life raft
And I hung my head and said, "I'm fine"
"Just fine."

Then in a renewed burst of courage I grabbed you

And gave you the biggest kiss that anybody had ever
Gotten in the history of kissing
And the gawkers and shoppers let out shocked gasps
But I didn't care and I kissed you again.

And I turned around

And my mama was standing there by the car
And I thought she was gonna kill me
Or ground me for a hundred years
But she had the most amazed expression on her face
And to my ever lasting surprise she just looked at me
And she said, "You go, girl."

Unrequited

(Eowyn to Aragorn)

Were I to pen a letter true
And tell my deepest thoughts to you
What would you think, what would you say
Would you rebound and run away?

Were I to sing a song of love
And convince you that 'twas from above
Would you in rapture listen to
And believe the words I sing to you?

Were I to die for true love's sake
Would you from slumber come awake
And love me then like you don't now
If I should die for you somehow?

Were I to die and haunt your dreams
In golden fields by crystal streams
In downy clouds lie down in love
Would that then win for me your love?

For all I've done has come to naught
I've found no hope in what I've sought
You've passed me by like I'm unseen
And kissed me only in my dreams.

And though I've laid my heart out bare
I know for me you do not care
My song's unheard, my words unread
In heartache's hand I make my bed.

Were I to wish now that I die
Would you in pity deem to try
And kiss my lips for pity's sake
I'll dream forever and never wake.

Aragorn's Song

As The Night Writes Us It's Song

As The Night Writes Us It's Song

I want you like I need you
I need you like I love
I love you like the ground below
And like the sky above

I feel you in the twilight
Like soft sand 'neath my feet
Coming through the atmosphere
And there my heart to meet

Touching me with just your eyes
Devouring with your glance
You reach for me as your soul sings
And pulls me close to dance

The day, forgotten, the night, awaits
And loneliness is gone
We kiss, we love, we touch, we sing
As the night writes us it's song
