    Somewhere Between The Stars

    put on full screen

    Beware The Kitten's Claws

    Beware The Kitten's Claws

    (The Enigma of Love)

Love she is, a red red rose

    With thorns within her leaves

Perfumed coverlets on graves of death

Left there by the left one that grieves

Love she is, a sparkling wine

Waking feelings asleep that wait to be woke

Intoxicating inhibitions to rise up and flee

Birthing passion and poetry that wait to be wrote.

Love she is, the sweetest thing

And the saddest thing of all

The cold of Winter, the heat of Summer

Spring's bloom and the decay of Fall

Love she is, the tiger's wildness

    The soft and playful paws

The kittenish purr wrapped up in fur

    But beware the kitten's claws.

For love she is, a two-sided thing

    She gives and takes away

With such tools employ, she'll bring you joy

And then leave you where you lay.

How do I know this tale of woe?

    This mystery I speak of?

This gift of Heaven oft tinged by Hell

My friend, my name is Love.

And Love I am and Love I'll be

    Until the end of days

    An enigma even unto myself

And no man can learn my ways.

A rose with thorns, a life with death

A wine that reveals your deepest flaws

A tiger, exciting and a kitten, enticing

Who will love you and sleep with your heart in her claws.

    People Like Us

    People Like Us

There  is no reason to try, you see

For people like you, for people like me

We reach and we reach but we never get far

Above us are dark skies with no shining star.

    .

Dreams are just wishes that never come true

For people like me, for people like you

And wishes are wisps that blow quickly away

Like the darkness of night overtakes the bright day.

    .

Love is unattainable, not maintainable or true

For people like me, for people like you

It matters not if we're witty or blessed with fair charms

We cannot find a way to make love dance in our arms.

    .

Happiness is fleeting like white clouds in the blue

For people like me, for people like you

A mirage in the desert, an oasis that appears

Then dissolves when we reach it in a rainstorm of tears.

    .

I've never known or understood it

    Why this happenstance should be

Why poets die a thousand deaths

    And true loves rarely see.

    .

It's like we have to pay a price

    For every verse and rhyme

The beauty we put on the page

That will never fade with time.

    .

    There's no heart like a poet's heart

No one feels what we feel

We love so deeply there is no end

Be the subject false or real.

    .

I wish I had the answers, all

    And that enlightenment could see

It would change the lives of  every poet

The people like you and me.

    .

Till then we'll write in our solitude

No shared passion, no bliss or it's fuss

Sweet words to be quoted in the wooing of others

But with no happy endings for people like us.

That Night In Hot Springs In The Rain...a true story told in prose form..........

    Gentle rain sounds

Play both at same time. Adjust volume to taste

That Night In Hot Springs In The Rain

    I had to get away
    And get away I did
Drove to Hot Springs and got a hotel
    Ordered some pizza
And tried to watch some tv.

    But I was bored
    So very bored
And it was raining a sweet Spring rain
    Yeah, rain has always
    Made my blood run hotter
And my feet want to get loose and dance.

    I got all dolled up
In a black jumpsuit of spandex
    Curled my long hair
    Put on perfume
    And silver.

Drove the streets of that town
Looking for a place that was alive
    With music and men
    Some place or cool scene
    To let off some steam.

    The high end clubs
    All seemed too dull
Though I was dressed in a "high end" way
But there was nothing in any of them
That made me want to stay.

I was about to give up on the whole idea
When something shiny caught my eye
I pulled over into a parking lot
    Surveying the neon lights
    As the rain fell gently
And Phil Collins sang "my song."

    It was a biker bar!
    (You know the kind)
The kind you see in movies
With Hondas and Harleys parked there everywhere
And men all dressed in black leathers.

    I was terrified
    (But so enthralled)
For I'd never darkened that kind of door
But I was bored and feeling dare devil-ish
And my body was just starved for dancing.

I checked the rear view and tousled my hair
As "Hold On My Heart" played on repeat
(You know sometimes when you get obsessed)
And you just wanna hear that song?
Well, hold that image in your mind....

I walked in like it was a movie premiere
And the crowd held it's collective breath
No exaggeration, I kid you not
(But I was scared too death!)
Yeah, me, the girl you think you know.....
    I was scared too death!

But I made my way through
    The whistles and smoke
And found a place to sit down
Looked around to see if I was the only girl there
And I was but for some Motorcycle Mamas..

    Then the beers started coming
(And I do not drink beer)
    And the boys started swaggering
    And making boy noise
But I didn't look up and meet anyone's eyes
(Though they all seemed to be willing toys.)

    After two or three beers
    I was losing my shyness
    And feeling my boldness
    And losing my blues
    And began looking 'round
    For a partner to choose.

    And then it hit me:
    The wildness
    (You know that wildness)
And I tossed back my hair
    Oh no, not that!
    Oh, yes, I did!
    I tossed back my hair
    And got to my feet.

Downed the last of that horrible
    Horrible beer
And then I kinda lost what was left of my mind
Grabbed me a startled cute guy by the collar
As Def Leppard started screaming out "Sugar."

"Come here, boy, let's dance." I said
And all eyes glued to us
(Well, mostly on me but.... you know, you know 😉)
The cute guy ate it up, grinning like crazy
And didn't put up much of a fuss.

    To be continued....................(maybe)
