The Latest 'Woe Is Me'
The Latest 'Woe Is Me'
Having read your latest woeful tale
About how love used and abused you
And left you abandoned
On the roadside of the highway
(You called it the highway of Hell)
I had to laugh.
I had to laugh
Because you're such a drama queen
Such a actor without genre
Such a B.S. artist worthy of an Oscar,
An Emmy, a Tony, a Grammy
And a Pulitzer Prize for the crap you make up.
Everything is about you
Sweet little innocent, wouldn't-hurt-a-fly you!
A man who wouldn't recognize himself
In a God created mirror
In a scripture, in a poem
Or a song by Carly Simon!
C'mon, man! Who are you kidding?
You've lived in denial so long, they ought to erect statues of you
Up and down that winding river in Egypt
The one Cleo used to float on
While seducing her latest victims
(Before feeding them to the crocodiles.)
How many loving, innocent hearts
Have you ripped apart
And displayed there under bright spotlights
On the altar to yourself
Accusing them of the most scandalous crimes
While you screamed "See! See what she did to me???"
My God!
When I think of all the 'never-saw-it-coming'
Pulling-the-rug-out-from-under-someone's-feet
Cold hearted narcissistic insanities you bestowed
Without so much as a "sorry" or a "tear"
It makes me shake my head in wonder
At your abject audacity!
How many times did you slaughter me
With your judgemental words
In response to the most innocent questions or statements?
How many times did you witness my happiness
And with malice aforethought
Wiped the smile from my face?
How many stories did you tell me before
About previous lovers who 'did you so wrong'
Who ran from your presence and then disappeared
Lovers you stalked when they couldn't be found
Lovers you terrified
When you took off your mask?
Well, I'm one of those lovers, remember me?
A woman who found you delightful, insightful
Talented and tender with a heart made of gold
Who prayed for you and encouraged you
Who laughed with you and loved you like crazy
Not knowing the dangers hiding there in your soul.
One day you were wonderful
The next day, insane
One day you praised me
The next, cursed my name
I never knew, ever, which one you would be
The man who had loved me or that now hated me.
And so I left and ran from your side
Hurting and horrified at what I had seen
And you couldn't stand it, how dare I reject 'you'?
So you painted your pictures to prove to all I was 'mean'
When anybody who knows me
Knows I've never been mean.
And somewhere out there in this ole world
I know there are others who loved you true, too
Women you wounded who came late to see
That you never loved them, you can only love you
Up there on your pedestal
There is no room for two.
And now you write your sad sad tales
You, the rejected, neglected, deserted
You, the big man that tore our hearts in half............
You, writing lies for your own self protection
When I read your latest
All I could do was...laugh.
