A Dozen Rubies
A Dozen Rubies
A dozen rubies fell to my feet
Scattered by your hand
You'd come to ask me for my love
And proclaim yours for me and
A thousand diamonds promised me
When promise I had made
While the topaz sun high in the sky
Burned us in the shade.
The grass an emerald shade of green
Lay below your feet and mine
From crystal cup we two did sup
The aged garnet wine
Grapes in clustered amethyst
You fed me from your fingers
And kissed the residue away
While afternoon did linger.
With silver tongue you spoke the words
My sweet heart to seduce
Like opals changing in the light
The outcome to deduce
Your turquoise eyes lit up with joy
Every time I smiled
I teased you with my pearl white hands
And we waltzed a little while.
The blue sky turned to jasper
Then agate, then sapphire
We lay and watched the end of day
As the sunset turned to fire
The dozen rubies crushed beneath
My onyx colored hair
Then I saw the black lies in your eyes
Carefully hidden there.
You did not know that I could see
The truth there in the man
(No precious jewel can buy my heart
From yours or any hand)
In twilight's hue I turned to you
At the sun's last golden glow
Your jaded eyes full of surprise
As I softly told you....... no.
Beautiful In The Dark
Beautiful In The DARK
(Sometimes the things that are beautiful in the dark
Can be so ugly in the light of day
Blinded by the need of the human heart
Sometimes the things we take the most for granted
Can mean the most when they go away.)
I stand here on this white sand beach
And watch the turquoise tides roll out to sea
I think about the silver moon in your eyes
And how your lips felt when you were loving me.
I l listened quietly to your soft sweet nothings
But honestly I didn't hear a thing
For words to you were lies to make me love you
So when the phone rings now, I let it ring.
You know how good strawberries taste on your tongue?
How champagne's bubbles tickle as they rise?
How rainbows disappear and appear like magic?
That's how love is brought to life before it dies.
A beautiful thing that's sweet when it shows up
So full of joy the heart gives it reception
There on the dance floor, street or garden path
But with the dawn, the heart sees it's deception.
Why must it be so in this earthly life?
Why must we wait for Heaven's joy to trust?
Why must we long for love with all our souls?
When the love we think we've found proves made of dust.
Love should be found in the golden light of morning
In a garden full of fragrance all around
Clearly surmised without shadow and apprised
To be what builds us up, not let us down.
I've seen love's face and I've seen the face of lusting
I've felt both pure intent and midnight's grasp
I've loved and lost and loved and learned a lesson
I've known the grief of loss when love has passed.
How foolish is the heart when night has fallen
When the eyes see lies but the need just does not care
And the void of the soul to be made whole grows wider
When you awake and find there's no love there.
Awakenings are stunning and despairing
When you've not yet learned to discern the shade from spark
And you see in clear light an ugly thing revealed
That you thought was simply beautiful in the dark.
I was naΓ―ve once long ago and yesterday
When I still thought you beautiful and fine
But my eyes couldn't see what my heart wouldn't see
Till I woke up ..............
Opened my eyes and found that I was blind.
