Dogwood Desire

I remember the dogwood days

When Spring came knocking on Winter's door

Demanding to be let in

Unbudded roses waited and forsythias bloomed

Like golden rays of sun on the landscape.

It was then that I discovered desire

Discovered longing and love

And how good it felt

To be held in the arms of another human

There in that secluded garden.

The grass around us, wet with dew

We lay carpeted on a blanket

Stolen from your mother's spare room

Birds whispered good morning greetings

And when the sun came up, we were still oblivious.

To this day, I can't look at a dogwood tree

Without seeing your face

Hearing your voice reading Whitman

Feeling your fingers entwined in my hair

And remembering Spring knocking on a long-ago door.

Let’s play in the pool

Cause I’m outta school

My belly is full

And so is my skull

So come, let us  play

I’ve been waiting all day

And it’s really hot

And that pool is not

I’ve finished my cheese

So let us go, please

And jump in the water

Cause it’s getting hotter

Oh come on, let’s go

I love you, you know

But what’s really cool

Is that big ole blue pool

I can’t wait any longer

This heat’s getting stronger

I’m ready to dash

Hey, look out, hey…..Splash!!!!
