EDDIE AND ME TAKE 3

EDDIE AND ME
(a true story)

the famous Eddie

Eddie and Me

Eddie the Elephant
Sleeps in my bed
Sometimes, he even
Sleeps under my head
Sometimes he crawls out
And falls on the floor
But he knows I'll wake up
And find him once more.

Eddie the Elephant
Is soft as can be
Big, gray, with two button eyes
To see me
He has a long trunk
And a fuzzy white tail
And when I am sick,
His warm hugs makes me well.

Eddie the Elephant
And Moochie the Moose
My two bestest pals
When I want to run loose
We hide in the tent house
And tear up the bed
We fill all the other toy's hearts
Full of dread.

When we play like pirates
And we play like kings
And great super heroes
And other cool things
We throw balls at bad guys
And dress up in capes
We hang from the curtains
Like aliens and apes.

And Moochie is nice
But he's little and brown
With a squeak toy inside him
That makes a neat sound
And he tries to be brave
Like Eddie and I
But he can't beat us jumping
No matter how he might try.

I have lots of toys
More so than most
And I eat lots of bananas
And a lot of cheese toast
I love tea and butter
And climbing the trees
Having imaginary
Adventures on seas.

I know lots of people
And teachers and pals
I like all the boys
But I love little gals
I like to tell stories
And sing songs and dance
Wear Mighty Mouse tee shirts
And Super Man pants.

I like speaking French
And Spanish, Chinese
But I really hate mosquitoes
Even though they like me
They chase me and catch me
When I'm in the yard
And they kiss me like Mama
But they kiss me too hard.

I love all my family
My mom and my dad
They're the best Mom and Daddy
That I've ever had
Now I'm turning five
And I'm growing so tall
That when I fall down
It's a long way to fall.

But back to my buddy
Back to my friend
I’ve got to tell ‘bout him
Before this poem ends
He’s been with me now
For many long years
Listening so closely
With his big fluffy ears.

To all of my troubles
My secrets and woes
And when I go to time out
That’s where he goes
But Eddie can’t follow
When I’m in the bath
He hides in the corner
And I hear him laugh.

Hosea

‘Cause Elmo and Moochie
Jose’, Hankey, too
Are toys that can’t get wet
(Though sometimes they do)
But Eddie the Elephant
Is so cuddly to touch
That I slobber him with kisses
‘Cause I love him so much.
Hankey

Right now I am worried
About my best friend
And I’m hoping this story
Still has a good end
‘Cause he’s in the washer
Going round and around
And I know he can’t swim
So I’m afraid he might drown.

I think he might need me
To rescue him now
I’ll think up a plan
And I’ll save him somehow
‘Cause he would save me
From the bad guys and stuff
He’s strong and he’s fearless
Though he’s just made of fluff.

So, Eddie, hold on
I’m thinking this through
I’ll pull you from the water
And I’ll rescue you
But if you go into
The dryer that’s hot
Oh, Eddie, I’m sorry
But that, I cannot.

You’ll have to be brave
And be a big boy
Though I know those ole baths
You do not enjoy
When you get out of there
You’ll be fluffy and clean
And then we can play
Like we’re pirates so mean.

I’ll squeeze you and love you
And pull your fur out
And Mama will make you
Giggle at me and shout
And we’ll drink chocolate milk
And get dirty again
Then we’ll snuggle together
‘Cause you’re my bestest friend.

Down into Dream Land
On adventures we’ll go
Climb all the mountains
And run in the snow
You’ll sleep in my arms
And maybe under my head
And in the morning I’ll find you
Somewhere under my bed.

(the un-named monkey)

But wherever you are
And wherever you go
I’ll find you and grab you
And you’ll always know
You’ll stay with me forever
When I’m all big, you’ll see
For you’ll live in this story
About Eddie and Me.

The End

IS IT RAINING WHERE YOU ARE??

Is It Raining Where You Are?

Is it raining where you are, I wonder
Are those sky tears running down your panes
Leaving silver tracks on all the windows?
Are you standing there watching your breath
Fog up the glass as it thunders
And can you see my reflection in the flashes?
I can see yours
It's there beside mine on the window
Just a shadow, but you, in all your ghostly glory
You, as you were when you loved me
And me, as I was when I was loved
I see us still together every time it rains
But just for tonight, I'll not turn around
To see the empty space that fills this room
I'll trace the palm print on the window
Lay my hand inside it until it melts away in morning
And though I know better than to believe in memory
I'll pretend it's yours.

THE SMILING DAYS ARE SOON TO COME

The Smiling Days Are Soon to Come

How sad is life, even in it's beauty
To travel all alone
How dark are days, even in sunshine
To share a smile with no one......................

For every creature, no matter how low
Should somehow find it's mate
The universe is set up that way
Call it God or Fate

Every hand has it's perfect fit
Every mouth, it's kiss
Every heart has it's nestled home
And every soul, it's bliss.

And those that find that hand to hold
And those that taste that kiss
Their hearts will know the joy of life
For life is made for this

And if you don't, what then is life?
What joy will fill your seas?
Your lips will hunger for that kiss
Your mouth will fill with pleas

I used to walk a withered earth
Soul bound to loveless death
Until I saw your shining face
And my lungs filled up with breath

I used to cry in midnight's bed
Till tears soaked every cover
I used to search the world in vain
Looking for my lover

And then the light broke through the dark
And tears dried instantly
Your hand pushed back that thorny hedge
And you reached out to me

I cannot say I'm not afraid
For I've been afraid so long
To trust another searching soul
Who tomorrow may be gone

I haven't smiled in such a while
I haven't felt sweet joy
My eyes, downcast, have met no others
For fear, not being coy

But give me time and we may find
That our hearts have found their home
For my hungry heart is telling me
That the smiling days are soon to come.

DANGEROUS

DANGEROUS

COMING AT ME LIKE THE WIND
YOUR EYES BLOW ME AWAY LIKE STORM
BURN ME LIKE FIRE
DRENCH ME LIKE RAIN
TOUCH ME LIKE PAIN
COVER ME LIKE DARKNESS

I RUN IN CIRCLES PUPPET- LIKE
WITH WEAKENED FEET AND
HOPEFUL HEART
WAITING FOR EMBRACE AND TOUCH
OF YOUR TWO HANDS OUTSTRETCHED TO ME

APPARITION OR MAN, I DO NOT KNOW
I DO NOT KNOW NOR DO I CARE
MAD WITH LONGING, I WEEP FOR YOU
IN DUSTY ROOMS FULL OF GHOSTLY WISPS OF MUSIC
FROM PIANOS UPRIGHT AND UNTOUCHED
BY MORTAL FINGERS AND SUNLIGHT OF DAY

I ONLY KNOW I NEED YOU
AND THAT YOU ARE DANGEROUS TO ME
I ONLY KNOW THAT YOUR EYES ARE DEEP AND DARK
AND THAT, IF GIVEN THE CHANCE
I WILL FALL FOREVER IN THEIR DEPTHS
OBSESSED MAD CREATURE THAT I AM
FOREVER LOVING THE FALL
AND GIVING MYSELF
TO THE DANGER.

SO I MARRIED A PIRATE AND A PARROT

SO I MARRIED A PIRATE
                                                                AND A PARROT

                                I MARRIED ME A PIRATE
                                A BIG AND BRISTLY MAN
HE SAILS THE SEVEN SEAS ALL YEAR
AND COMES HOME WHEN HE CAN.

HE LIKES THE SALTY SEAS, YOU SEE
                                HE LIKES THE OCEAN'S ROAR
BUT ME, I LIKE IT FINE, SO FINE
WHEN HE WALKS OUT THE DOOR.

                                OUR OLDEST CHILD IS TWENTY-SEVEN
                                THE YOUNGEST BABE IS TWO
AND ALL OF THEM HAVE DARK BROWN EYES
AND THE PIRATE'S EYES ARE BLUE.

I'VE ONLY SEEN HIM SEVEN TIMES
IN THE DECADES I'VE BEEN HIS WIFE
                                HE'S ALWAYS OFF ON PILLAGES
                                (HE LEADS A STRESSFUL LIFE.)

THE WORK IS HARD, THE PAY IS LOW
AND AT LAST WHEN HE SAILS IN
HE DOES NOT ASK WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO
                                AND I DON'T ASK WHERE HE'S BEEN.

THE MAN, HE ONLY HAS ONE EYE
AND FOR A HAND, A HOOK
HE LOST A LEG AND FOUND A PARROT
THAT HELPS HIM LIMP AND LOOK.

THE PARROT GOES TO BED WITH HIM
                                AND ON HIS SHOULDER SITS
AND IF I ASK HIM TO REMOVE THE BIRD
                                HE THROWS SOME AWFUL FITS.

BUT HE BRINGS ME LITTLE TRINKETS
                                FROM ALL HIS ROBBERIES
ONE TIME HE BROUGHT ME SOLID GOLD
ONE TIME HE BROUGHT ME FLEAS.

HE'S NOT SO MUCH TO LOOK AT
                                HE'S STAINED LIKE CHIMNEY SOOT
BUT FOR THE FRONT DOOR, I HAD A MAT MADE
THAT SAYS, PLEASE WIPE YOUR FOOT.

HE SEEMED TO BE REAL PLEASED WITH THAT
AND BEAMED BRIGHTLY LIKE A STAR
BUT I WAS GLAD TO SEE HIM GO
AND I HOPE THAT HE'LL GO FAR.

MY CHILDREN ALL ARE HAPPY TO MEET HIM
WHEN THE PIRATE SAILS TO SHORE
HE NEVER NOTICES WHEN HE COMES HOME
                                THAT THERE ARE SEVEN MORE.

HE SAYS HE'S GOING TO SOON RETIRE
CAUSE HIS CREW GIVES HIM THE BLUES
HE SAYS HIS DREAM IS TO SAVE ENOUGH
TO TAKE ME ON A CRUISE.

BUT I'LL STAY ON THE SAND, THANK YOU
THOUGH HE TELLS ME I AM NUTS
AND I WAVE GOODBYE TO HIM AND HIS PARROT
(LORD, I HATE THAT PARROT'S GUTS.)

BRING ME SOMETHING PRETTY, I YELL
                                JUST LIKE I ALWAYS DO
SOME GOLD OR SILVER OR MAYBE SOME PEARLS
AND I'LL MAKE A NEW CHILD FOR YOU.
