Secret Place

Secret Place

A hush falls quietly on my soul and stills my beating heart
I've come to worship as I do and set myself apart
In a forest wonderland of snow beneath the white tipped pines
I walk in silence all alone and forget the world of time.

I cannot say what draws me here, I think I do not know
But when the world becomes too much, it's to this place I go
Far from the road and off the path on a trail you cannot see
My secret place to seek God's face and where He meets with me.

I turn my face up to the sky and let the snow fall down
Laugh like a child born in the wild and kneel there on the ground
The wind plays with me like a friend and blows my cares away
And if I could I surely would forever this place, stay.

The snowbirds come to visit me and sing their winter songs
I listen rapt with joyful heart till the day is almost gone
The trees, tall and attentive, wave the odd left behind leaf
And as the snow covers up my tracks, I leave behind my grief.

The world's a big and bitter place, most of the time to me
And loveliness and kindnesses are rare for the eye to see
In fellow man, in heartbreak's hand, it's hard to find the love
So I go running through the woods and search for it above.

And there I find it in the quiet with hillside covered in the white
The sparkling brook, the crystal fall, the One who made me, made it all
And for my hungry eyes that yearn, I listen, watch, observe and learn
Then take away the unwritten page He writes for me on nature's stage.

God's whisper, tender, like a glove, restores my soul, renews my love
Washes me clean, removes the stain, then sends me to the world again
And though I travel through the mire, fall in the quicksand, burn with fire
To that sacred place again I'll go and kneel my knees on fallen snow.

Cry out my pain and lay me down, to seek the mercy where grace abounds
Lay down the load I cannot bear, to walk away and leave it there
Pour out my heart for Him to see and let Him mend it once more for me
Reach up my hand to touch His face and meet Him in that secret place.

The In-Between Time

Saturday, December 28, 2019

The In-Between Time

Sun going down into the black well of night,
It sighs and whispers, "See you in the morning."
And holds onto the day as long as it can
Not wanting to be alone.

The shadows come first, like errant clouds
And then the sunset, the twilight
The golds and cobalt blues so ethereal
They make you want to cry without knowing why.

Slipping now, slowly, like a broken kite on the water,
The sun dips, rouses again, and gives up the fight
Going under the blanket of pink clouds in the West
Yawning like a sleepy baby sinking into dreams.

I know how it feels, the sun
I know how hard I try to hold onto your voice
On the telephone, your words on the piece of paper,
Your hands as they pull out of mine and rush off towards tomorrow.

My lips hold to yours as long as they can
Tasting your kiss even after you've gone away
My heart feels your imprint against my chest
As my arms close and grasps your form of empty air.

Twilight is so lonely, so lovely, but oh, so lonely
The in-between time, not day nor night, but a time all it's own
'Twixt shade and shadow and blue gone to midnight and moon
The time the heart fills with longing and hears only whispers.

And when the darkness comes, as it always does,
I wait for the man in the moon to smile
And if he does not, I know he is sitting alone
On the dark side of the moon, sighing, just like me.

Waiting for love to wave it's hands and gather me back
Into the daylight and out of the darkness
That can only be lit by your love and the waking sun
The bright day separated from the beautiful night
By the in-between time.....and the magic of the twilight.

Your Eyes Are Like.........

Your Eyes Are Like....

Your eyes are like the ocean
Deeper than the sea
And swimming there inside their depths
Is where I want to be.

Your eyes are like the heavens
Up above my head
Sending signals to my brain
Demanding to be read.

Your eyes are like soft rainy days
And sometimes like a storm
Blazing up with passion's fire
To make my cold heart, warm.

Your eyes are like twin mirrors
Hear me, yes, it's true
I see me in your eyes of love
And in my eyes, you see you.

Your eyes are my jewels and my gold
My silver shining sea
And joyous I live now I've found you
And your eyes shine on me.

THE GLORY TRAIN

Train sounds

 The Glory Train

Down by the old train tracks in Glory, Mississippi
There is a man that walks alone
Almost every night when the moon is high
                Waiting for a train..............
That never comes by.

Sometimes you can see him
Sometimes you can feel him
Sometimes you just know that he's there
Walking and weeping and crying like a baby
For the girl who had left him 'cause she didn't care.

They say he died there waiting for the train
To come back through and go searching for her
In the blast of a blizzard and the arms of the wind
He froze like a statue for the train had derailed
And neither he or that old train would be running again.

There are too many stories
               That come out of Glory
And I haven't a clue if any are true
But I know this one is and that man's not a myth
And this is the story I'm telling to you.

I've seen him myself and that is the truth
When the night was quiet and the moon was full
A pale apparition with big ghostly eyes
Piercing the silence with his heartbroken moans
Walking and wailing like the poor man could die.

One night I walked there as I made my way home
Following the tracks in the cold December fog
Longing for warmth and the comfort of fire
Sad for myself and the love I had lost
Lost for my lips were the lips of a liar.

A coldness colder than  deep winter's breath
Blew on my face and clutched at my arm
I  froze where I stood like my cold feet were fused
For a man stood there holding.................
A ticket he'd never used.

I shook my head when he held out the ticket
Staring at him and not wanting to see
Then I turned to flee in my terror's mad grasp
                 Running away from my future
As he ran towards his past.

But then I stopped and turned to face him
Standing there waiting on those tracks of pure rust
His face was a see through mask of such pain
And in the distance in the darkness
We both heard the train.

It hadn't run in forty years
It hadn't existed since before I was born
It hadn't sounded that old whistle low
And how it ran then, I couldn't tell you
But the man caught the train and that's all that I know.
