Dark Horse

Dark Horse

You're a flying dark horse
A powerful force
A maniacal killer on the run from the law.

You're a son of a gun
And some dangerous fun
You're the love words that stick in my craw.

You're some body's baby
And every one's maybe
You're the ghost in the house in the dark.

You're the star and the moon
And the taste and the tune
You're the cold and the fire and the spark.

You're the tuxedo-ed cat
And the sneak of a rat
You're the mischievous laugh of a child.

You're the highs and the lows
You're the whys and don't knows
And the smile of your lips makes me wild.

You're the tops of the trees
And the cool of the breeze
You're the rose in the snow laying bare.

You're the faint light of dawn
You're the dew on the lawn
And you'll leave me but I do not care.

You're the pleasure and pain
And the sun and the rain
You're the strike of the snake in my heart.

You're the life and the death
And the drawing of breath
And the horse that is pulling my cart.

You're the here and the gone
And what's right with my wrong
You're the candle that lights up my night.

You're the villain and hero
Taking all, leaving zero
You're the wind blowing out of my sight.

You're the love of my life
And my passion and strife
You're the perfect ideal full of flaws.

You're the life that I choose
And the life I will lose
You're the rebel that runs from the cause.

You're the grit and the glory
The wheel spinning this story
You're the sweetest of bittersweet lies.

You're the beginning and end
You're my best and worst friend
You're my lover till that dark horse flies.

Where Could I Go?

soundtrack

Where Could I Go?

Without you in my dream-filled arms
Down where the hopeful meet
I'd never know what love looks like
Or how it tastes so sweet.

Without you running down that road
In misty morning air
I'd never see the sun light rise
Like halos in your hair.

I'd never hear the song bird's song
And the joy that shines in eyes
I'd never know the ring of truth
That separates the lies.

I could not know the touch of bliss
That visits at that gate
Could only long for a tender kiss
To come and change my fate.

But there you are, and there you stand
With arms out-stretched to me
And there I run in breathless haste
To where you'll always be.

In dreams, as perfect as a rose
In sleep, where dreams come true
In midnight lands where dreamers flee,
I flee, and search for you.

For in this world, you do not dwell
On east or western shore
Your spirit passed this way but once
And caught my eyes no more.

Yet every night I hear your call
Your voice so low and deep
You say my name and I awake
There in the realm of sleep.

And hand in hand, we run and run
From daybreak's heartless sorrow
To find the night that has no end
That always comes tomorrow.

Where could I go but to my dreams?
No love waits at the dawn
My life's a lonely, loveless thing
Since you've grown wings and flown.

Where could I go? Where could I find
The love I miss so much
There in the green fields of the heart
Mere deserts, without your touch?

Perhaps one day I'll come to you
Though I don't know if that will be
Till then, I'll run through these days to night
When you can come to me.

plowboy desires

plowboy desires

calloused hands upon the plow
wiping sweat from weathered brow
how I'd love to hold him now
how I'd love to love him.

rainy days would keep him in
we'd play and say that it was sin
but we were married then back then
how I'd love to love him.

the farm, it was his life, he'd say
he'd plan all night and work all day
no weed would ever get away
how I'd love to love him.

the babies played off by themselves
and I would cook and clean myself
while he would work the fields himself
how I'd love to love him.

but the earth, it pays a different wage
it tears your life out page by page
and blows your hopes and dreams away
how I'd love to love him.

but I can't love him 'cause he's gone
greener pastures called him home
he left me here to farm alone
how I'd love to love him.

I never was good as a farmer's wife
Too much strain and too much strife
I'd trade in this bad life for something that's right
but how I'd love to love him.

plowboy leaning on that old hard plow
tanned from the sun and looking good now
boy, would you like to come a working for me?
work when you want and all your dinners for free.

so I hired me a hired hand and I brought him to home
and all he does is plant, plow and leave me alone
he's tending the crops and I'm praying for rain
(looks like I've got me the same plowboy again.....)

and I stand at the window and I watch while I sing
look at my hand and take off my ring
he's younger than me but that don't mean a thing
how I'd love to love him.

Can You Tell Me Why? In Memory of Benjamin Keough R.I.P.

Can You Tell Me Why?

Can you tell me why this came?
This horrible day so full of pain?
This thing so terrible
It has no name
Can you tell me why?

Can you tell me where to go?
I have no answers and I need to know
I can't even see
Which way to go
Can you tell me why?

Can you tell me how to stop?
This time that broke me and the clock?
It's frozen in time
And it's all I've got
Can you tell me why?

Maybe  "Why" is not the right question
Maybe " How" is not even close
Maybe " Someday" is all I'll ever get
Maybe I'll have to accept "I Don't Know."

I've searched my mind and I've searched my heart
And torn my memory book apart
That the End has come now when the Beginning should start
Can you tell me why?

Grief, it is an angry thing
It steals your joy like a hawk on the wing
It swoops down and grabs you and forbids you to sing
Can you tell me why?

These questions come from my sorrowing soul
Down where it's dark and deep and cold
My beloved will never be, like me, growing old
Can you tell me why?

I didn't think so.
