So Much For Fairytales
So much for fairytales
So much for truth
I thought you loved me
But I have no proof.
I thought the sun glowed
And shined for me
That you painted skies only
For my heart to see.
Never truly believing
In true love before
I believed when you came
You brought love to my door.
And the days just like flowers
Grew from soil that was dead
And the nights just like feathers
From two hearts made a bed.
It was moonlight and roses
It was starlight and rain
Till your soul drained of passion
Turned each pleasure to pain.
And our volume of poetry
Illustrated so fair
Now a book of blank pages
With no poems rhyming there.
The hero, the villain
With each purpose and plan
Dropped all masks and revealed
They were both the same man.
I don't read anymore
I don't dream, don't believe
I'm no longer the maiden
With her heart on her sleeve.
All my skies gone to gray now
All my laughter to wails
I see the truth and the fable
In your grim fairytales.
With your kiss, I awakened
From my sad dreamless sleep
Now I return to my slumber
And the darkness so deep.
Just a princess with no prince
Songless voice, void of laughter
You gave me 'once upon a time'
Without a 'happy ever after.'
