Sometimes At Midnight

Sometimes At Midnight

Sometimes at midnight
When the world is quiet
I hear you calling
 In the night

Sometimes at noon
I hear you say
Come take my hand,
Let's run away

Sometimes at twilight
I think I feel
Your touch so tangible
I think it's real

Sometimes at dawn
I think I see
Contours of you
Lying there with me

Sometimes I hear you
Without a sound
Whispering and making
My love come down

Sometimes I feel
Your lips on mine
Seducing and driving
Me out of my mind

Sometimes I hear you
Sometimes I feel
Sometimes I see you
Just like you're real

But every day I wake
Just to feel the pain
Of finding that you
Aren't here again.

But We Don't Say Goodbye

But We Don't Say Goodbye

We've said a lot of things, we two
Like , 'I am so happy that I found you
Like,  you are my moon, my stars and sun
My life, my love, my only one.'

We've laughed in pain,
We've cried for joy
We've been transparent
Been shy and coy.

We've reeled love in
And gave it slack
We've run away
And then ran back.

We've fought like lions,
Cooed like a dove
Laid down our lives
For each other's love.

No matter the circumstance,
No matter the cause
We've held to the victories,
Dismissing the loss.

We've written the poetry
That brought forth the sighs
Embraced like true lovers
With tears in our eyes.

Said 'I love you forever'
Said 'I hate you right now'
Said 'I might live without you'
But I cannot see how.'

We've walked through the thunder
Hand in hand, holding fast
Danced in moonlight at midnight
Long as moonlight would last.

Been through so much, we two, together
Will go through more before we die
We say such things and some we shouldn't
But you and I don't say goodbye.

On The Wind

On The Wind

I left some words out on the wind

A whispered prayer, and said "amen"

I spoke into my hands and sighed

And then released them to the sky.

I saw your face there in the moon

For just a moment and none too soon

All day I'd hungered for your smile

To come and warm me for awhile.

I heard the voices in the trees

I felt the soft, sweet touch of breeze

It touched my hair, it touched my cheek

I was so moved, I couldn't speak.

Leaning back upon my  door

My heart was full but needed more

The day was done, the night was long

My ears were longing for your song.

Do you not see? Do you not know?

My heart's with you wherever you go

A hundred lifetimes, a hundred ages

You're written here on my life's pages.

How my soul yearns, my body burns

Do you not feel me? Do you discern?

I need to hold you. I need to say

The words to make you come and stay.

Morning comes with rain and still I stand

Holding lonely in my hand

My words are out there flying free

Listen, my love. Can't you hear me?

As The Night Writes Us It's Song

As The Night Writes Us It's Song

I want you like I need you
I need you like I love
I love you like the ground below
And like the sky above

I feel you in the twilight
Like soft sand 'neath my feet
Coming through the atmosphere
And there my heart to meet

Touching me with just your eyes
Devouring with your glance
You reach for me as your soul sings
And pulls me close to dance

The day, forgotten, the night, awaits
And loneliness is gone
We kiss, we love, we touch, we sing
As the night writes us it's song

All The Things You Are ....a song or a poem or both

All The Things You Are

Candlelight in the window

The soft fall of silver rain

The low moan in the distance

Of a lone outgoing train.

A rose that's wet with dew drops

A bird that's on the wing

The cooing of little babies

Lullabies their mothers sing.

There's a sweetness to the morning

There's a passion to the night

There's a softness in your kisses

There's a grip your love holds tight.

There's so many lovely, lovely things

In this world, I tell you true

But none can compare to you standing there

And the beauty I see in you.

You're the rainbow in a fresh washed sky

The smell of grass, new mown

You're the wine that's made from priceless grapes

And the harvest from love's seed, sown.

When I look at you, I hold my breath

All my eyes can do is stare

Locked onto yours so deep and warm

Forever falling there.

There's a richness to your laughter

There's a fire in your touch

There's a royalty to your face and form

Both of which I love so much.

No mortal description is good enough

No adjective can describe

Your loving heart that can't be bought

By any bill or bribe.

I hear music when I'm near you

For you glow as though a star

I'm drowned in romance and surrounded by love

And all the beautiful things you are........

You are

All the beautiful things you are.

Ole!!!! Ole!!!!! She Dances

She Dances

She dances like the wave of an ocean

The touch of a breeze

Like a moonbeam in summer

Through the tops of the trees.

She dances like an intangible touch

With a tangible lust

And for reasons beyond her

She just knows that she must.

The music is in her

Was born her birthday

She sees it in everything

And cannot look away.

Her feet fly like magic

Her hands bid you "come"

Her eyes see your soul

Wraps your heart 'round her thumb.

She dances like rose petals

Craving sweet morning dew

She dances for love's sake

She dances for you.

Listen To Me Now and Hear Me Later

Listen To Me Now And Hear Me Later

It's hard, I know, to hear what I'm saying
You're listening so intently to what I'm not.....
And staring into my eyes like you've never seen a man
With his heart in his eyes before....

I can hear you thinking.....
Like a lock tumbling numbers
In a bank vault security system
You're thinking:  Can I trust this fool?
Can I believe anything he's telling me?
Can I love him?

Oh yeah, I can hear you
Can you hear me?
My heart is beating so fast and furiously
That I can hardly hear myself speak.

I hear myself saying words that I heard
Somewhere once in a dream,
Last night's comedy routine at Funnybone's',
Last week's rom-com movie of the week...
Words....
Spilling out. Out. Out of me. My soul.

Look, I say and you freeze and then melt as I whisper:
Listen to me now and hear me later
Later...everything I say will make sense. I promise.
Either that or this moment never happened
This moment here...in this deafening silence

With one of us babbling and one of us is listening
I no longer know which one.........
I just listen to you listening
And I'm hoping you will hear.

All Night Cafe

All Night Cafe

Starving for love in late afternoon,
We met at the cafe down the way
Anticipating a snack
That turned into a banquet,
That turned into a midnight feast,
That led to a breakfast buffet.

(Damn!
You are one fine
short order cook!)

The Storm In Me

Storm sounds

The Storm In Me

The storm in me is raging
Raging for your touch
Raging for the passion
The taste I love so much

The storm in me is rising
Rising every hour
Rising to meet you in the storm
And feel your strength and power

The storm in me is calling
Calling out for love
Calling as it's falling
As rain falls from above

The storm in me is whispering
Whispering for your kiss
Tickling down the silken throat
With the lips I love to miss

The storm in me is welcoming
As you come to me now
Come inside out of the rain
Where it's still wet somehow

The storm in me is screaming
As your love to me you give
Screaming out my soul's delight
And all my dreams relive

The storm in me's abating
Peaceful now and calm
My body now is sated
Your love it's sweetest balm

The storm in me is sleeping
To be wakened by you when
With your lightest touch, you'll bid me rise
And the storm will rage again.

CRESCENT MOON ON THE HIGHWAY

     (start song  before reading)

Crescent Moon On The Highway

Lying here on this cold and misty Sunday afternoon
Cat at my feet on his blanket
The threat of rain outside my shuttered windows
I listen to Villanelle For Our Time by the master
Of the rough and tender voice
His verse running down my spine like a lover's fingers
Crooning bittersweet lyric into my ears with his distant tongue
The melody caresses me and makes me senseless
As he repeats "bitter searching of the heart" over and over and over
Until images conjure up from memory and lay themselves down
Upon my mind.

You, in that convertible under the stars on that long ago highway
We were laughing like mad people, kissing, more than paying attention
Music soaring on the tape deck
And ebbing off behind us with the desert wind
My hair whipping around us like long black scarves
And thinking that if I could die of joy, then I would surely die
We were racing under clear cold skies looking for rain and storm
Loving lightning and angry clouds
But finding none, we drove on into the night
Listening to Leonard and holding each other hard enough to bruise.

Look, baby, you said and pointed to a crescent moon
Hanging low in the sky on the side of the highway
A hundred miles from nowhere
And we pulled over
And danced underneath that moon
Toasted it with champagne and kisses no one had ever kissed before
While the music trailed off into silence and clicked to a stop
As we stood in the glow of the headlights,
Our eyes locked onto one another
And our hearts as close as hearts can be.

That long ago highway
And that crescent moon and you
With your crooked smile and wind blown hair
How it all comes back to me now
Damn you, Leonard, with your bitter searching of the heart
and your rough and tender poet's voice
Bringing the past alive and spotlighting the present
with it's loneliness
And loss.........................

Damn you, Leonard.
