What Is A Mile To Love? An observation on the heart

What Is A Mile To Love?

What is a mile to love?
A distance to the heart?
Oceans and mountains and skies full of stars
To unsundered souls sundered apart?

Like old songs said in days gone by
No mountain high, no valley low
They said that love could not be lost
But now we know, but now we know.

Lost but ever present still
Like ghosts that walk with timid step
Haunted hands that once sweetly caressed
That long to hold the hand that left.

The heart hears what the ear cannot
The heart hungers for love it may never be fed
The heart knows the truth when the mind is confused
The heart still lives on though the flesh has long fled.

There is no distance in the realm of love
It disdains every ending like it cherishes the start
From birth unto death with every longing and breath
The heart finds no home till it finds the right heart.

And though that place may seem far away
Past boundaries, borders and seashores and sea
It matters not to the heart that loves yours
Your heart will always be right here with me.

RIVERS AGO from Voo's Vault

RIVERS AGO

Rivers Ago

Rivers ago
I fought an unwinnable battle
I thought I knew the answers
But only questions came to light
When I laid my weary head
Beneath the wayward stars.

You were there, always
An inch away from true love
And a million miles from me
Dancing in somebody else’s starlight
Quenching your thirst with a stranger’s wine
But never mine.

I’ve made it a habit
Of crossing rivers just to cross them
Going from one side to the other
Looking forward, looking back
To see which side looks better
But there’s no difference on either side for me.

You were fool’s gold
When I thought you were pure
Thought I’d found the mother lode of all love
The hidden treasure, the pearl of great price
The shelter for my homeless heart
But you tarnished when I held you in my hands.

Still I hoped
Until hope was drained by drought
And even then, dredged for your love
In the mud of dis-consolation
You were always on the wrong side of every river
Surrounded by broken boats
And I never learned to swim.
