There Is A Spring Inside of Me
THERE IS A SPRING INSIDE OF ME
THERE IS A SPRING INSIDE OF ME
ONE I COULD NOT EVEN SEE
ONE I COULD NOT EVEN FEEL
BUT NOW I KNOW THE SPRING IS REAL.
THERE IS A FOUNTAIN IN MY SOUL
OF SILVER WATER THAT TURNS TO GOLD
THE SOURCE IS GOD, THE VESSEL, ME
AND POURING FORTH NOW FOR ALL TO SEE.
THERE IS A LOVE THAT BRIGHTLY SHINES
HERE IN MY EYES AND IN MY MIND
AND I GIVE BACK WHAT I'VE BEEN GIVEN
AND FOLLOW THE TRAIL OF WORDS TO HEAVEN.
THERE IS A HOPE THAT ONCE WAS PALE
AND FEARED THE PATH WOULD LEAD TO HELL
BUT NOW I JOY AND MY SOUL SINGS
MY GOD HAS MADE ME A LIVING SPRING.

THE FALL DOWN DAYS W SPOKEN WORD VERSION
And now in the fall down days
Of my solitary heart
I sit reading in the corner
Of a musty library
Drinking tea and watching spiders
Spin their silvery webs along the shelves.
It's always raining outside
And the west wind whispers my name
Ever so softly
There's usually a book of poetry
Lying in my lap
Maybe even one of mine from ages past.
Celebrity is a heady thing
It raises you up and pulls the rug
Out from under you
Just when you get comfortable
And think they really love you.
Everything that goes up
Must come down
Fame and fortune, life and love
Dreams and spotlights
Soft rain and music sounds

LOOKING FOR THE MAN WHO RAN
Looking For The Man Who Ran
The stars were so bright
And the moon so full
I swear I could see the cactus
Moving surreptitiously
Across the red desert floor.
One last bite of hard bread
One sip of lukewarm water
A bit of prayer
And I snuggled down against the cold.
The neighing of the horse
Woke me from a dreamless sleep
And I lay there underneath the sky
And thought about your face.
Traveling’s never brought me
Closer to you
Searching has never taken me
To the place to which you ran.
But I keep riding
I keep looking and I keep hoping
Up every steep green mountain
Down every low lonely valley.
They say you killed a man for me
But I don’t know
I’ve never looked at other men
Though maybe some have looked at me.
There’s never been room inside my soul
For anyone else but you
And your quiet ways
And your laughing eyes and quick hands.
The horse looks at me with pity
Turns his back and flicks his tail
He knows I’m thinking about you again
And he’s sorry he woke me.
A soft cool wind sweeps by, caresses my skin
And I burrow deeper into the blanket
And fall back to sleep
Dreaming that I hear footsteps
Walking toward me in the starlight.
