The First Time I Saw Your Face
The First Time I Saw Your Face
The first time I saw your face
I fell in love
The first time I looked into your eyes
I fell in love
The first time I felt your heart
I fell in love
The first time you said my name
I fell in love.
What is it about you
That makes that happen?
I'm sure I don't know
And won't venture to guess
Madness on my part, perhaps??
Madness in you
That extends itself to me?
There on the other side of the other side
Reaching out to me
Like some magician's spell
Some conjurer's ritual?
I do not know
I do not know
I only know your eyes pulled me in
Your lips spoke my unspoken name
And your face looked
As familiar as my own there in the mirror.
Like you were there all along
Existing in me, a part of me
And letting me know
That I was a part of you
And always had been.
I find myself reaching for you
In the dark
In my lonely bed
Where I cry tears of wanting,
Of needing
And feeling only the outline of you
Like a ghost, not fully formed.
What have you done to me, my love?
You have made of me a love slave
And a woman not used to needing
But needing you like air
And song and poetry.
How can I feel lost and found
At the same time?
How can I need
What I have never known
And want
What I have never had?
It is you and your magic
Your incantations of love
That my soul cannot resist
Your spirit so seductive
That it calls my will to you
And my will whispers, Yes, Beloved.
I try to fight it but it is no use
The need is always there
Sleeping, waking, praying
It is there, always
Taunting me with it's tongue.
It says to me, Don't fight me, love
You are mine
You are bound to me
For ages without end
And lives without dying
Mine!
And so I am, it seems
Your willing slave,
Your geisha, your concubine
Your fantasy
Your woman of dreams
Who never sleeps.
And what are you?
A man on a mission?
A magician performing tricks?
A conjurer amusing himself
At my expense?
Or are you, like me,
A lonely soul reaching out
And not knowing any other way
To find what you have been searching for?
Has reality not been your friend
But a cold blooded foe
That refuses to bless you
And send you what you need?
What are you, my love?
I need to know
And having said that,
I don't even care....not really.
I only know that you are my love,
My master, my teacher, my guru,
My fantasy that visits
When I am sleeping
And my nightmare
That haunts me
When I am awake.
I see you when I look in the mirror
I see you in my eyes, looking back
And smiling a smile, quite unlike my own
But yours, exclusively yours
Like a mystery and a kiss
And a secret that will never be told.
I love your face
The face I fell in love with
At first glance
The face that shone like the sun
And brightened my life
With kindness and joy
And I had no idea why.
Perhaps I will never know...............why

Feeling You With My Eyes
Feeling You With My Eyes
for my hands cannot reach
the place where you stand
the place where you ran
the place where you are
there on the other side of forever
I've tried to reach there
I've tried, I've tried
but I cannot swim
through that raging tide
to get to that shore
and moor on that landing
though I see the sun shining
on you where you're standing
you've pushed me away
shut your ear to my cries
my hands cannot touch you now
but you're still in my eyes.

Too Much Too Late
Too Much Too Late
We love too much
Usually in those moments of losing
The thing later to mean the most to us
The thing we took for granted
Never seeing the chasm opening there
Inside a soul that will never be whole again.
We love too much
When love is a one sided option
And friendly hands are no longing reaching
No longer receiving our hurried handshakes
Our "nice to see you, gotta run, catch you laters"
Those listening ears forever shut now to our self-centered lies.
We love too much
When sun is gone and falling rain
Accompanies us the rest of our days
How lonely is rain, we think
And mix it with our tears
As we walk through life, looking for what is no longer there.
We love too much
When memory stirs and we catch our breaths
At the thought of those gone
Their smiles, their laughter, the light in their eyes
Needing that light so badly now
In the darknesses of our despair.
(We love too much
When it's too late
But not enough, we find, till then
When it's too late, we realize
How much, how much we needed them.)
