Graveyard
Graveyard
I walked in the graveyard of broken hearts
The sad place where dreams go to die
The gray gates swung shut by themselves at my back
And a raven swooped down from the sky.
He gave me a look that said "You shouldn't be here"
I was puzzled and replied with a frown
The twilight grew dense and the winter wind, cold
As my tears with the raindrops came down.
The mausoleum, regal, stood in the silence
It's pale marble glowed with allure
I thought I heard whispers like bats in a belfry
But my grieving mind couldn't be sure.
The night like a cloak enveloped the statues
That were lit by the sudden full moon
Rising in rain as the moan of a train
Played it's desolate, long distance tune.
I do not know how long I walked there
For it seemed to me time had stood still
I could only think about how I had loved you
And how much that I always will.
When the sun awoke, it shined it's face
On the horizon's dim canvas so wide
And I saw the headstones etched with our names
On two graves close by side by side.
A movement I saw then across the way
As the dawn sky was streaked with the blue
I saw a hand there waving forlornly
And I knew that it was you.
My love, long dead yet living still
(For love can't be refrained)
Our bodies, cold, mortal and faded to dust
While our immortal souls' passion remained.
