MAN WITH A HAT

Man With A Hat

Hat on heart, he stands there looking lonely
Gazing into my eyes and through them past my soul
Toward some unknown inferno
Blazing quietly in a distant void
Now his forehead creases and his eyebrow lifts
And he smiles a tiny smile which makes me squirm,
Not knowing if it is for me or for the girl
From yesterday who still lives in his mind
Man with a hat, simple, yet debonair, wistful as a child
And deep as Rodin's Thinker
Always he will live on my living room wall
In the gold gilded frame over the ancient piano
Looking at me with his melancholy face
And the hat that another woman gave him
But always knowing, both of us
That it was my camera and my love
That took the picture.

PLAYING PIRATES AND HUNTING BEARS

Playing Pirates and Hunting Bears

Me and my buddy
We like to hunt bears
We like to hunt bears really bad.
We meet up and pray
That the bears come our way
And on days that they don't, we get sad.

Me and my buddy
We like to play pirates
We  like to play pirates so tough.

We dress up with hooks
Give each other mean looks,
And walk gang planks made of pillows and stuff.

Me and my buddy
We just love to run
We just love to run in the yard.

We run through the mud
Cause it feels so good
And my buddy and me run real hard.

Me and my buddy
We're really good friends
We're really good friends all the day.

We're pirates, we share
And we hunt gummy bears
Till my buddy's mom takes him away.

THE DEATH OF DISTANCES poem written to me by my friend Larry

The Death of Distances

From the tawdry chase of mountaintop tease;
Through the windy halls of poetic song;
The death of distances without reprieve
Makes my fractured soul penitently long

For the briefest rumor of star dance brush
Across these eyes forlorn and angel blind;
And the shadowed silk of heavenly touch
To ease this tormented knights grieving mind.

And now, on this hallowed ground, tall I stand;
In the breast of Poseidon; here I vow;
As distances die into sunful sand
I sway this lucid dream of evening bough;

My sullen memories now washed away
When on this wind-gilded, wildflowered day
My heart, pierced magnificently, flew
Into the moon-laden drift of sweet, sweet Voo

BEAUTY FOR MY EYES

Beauty For My Eyes

I found something I had never lost But searched for all my life I found some peace there in the pieces In the art work of the knife. That had ripped my soul to tiny shreds And left the scene of crime To find other victims of this fate And to blur my face with time. I found something I had never lost Because I never owned it I never knew a love that was true (Or at least, I've never known it.) For lies have been my daily bread And tears have been my feast I've begged for beauty for my eyes And only seen the beast. The cold hard truth is: love is cruel And pain it's only measure No scales have weighed an ounce of joy No real artist painted pleasure. But now I've found a canvas fresh A palette full and new And colors spring from my paint brush For I found myself in you. Now I can paint a rainbow Now I can sketch a dove And the loneliness that haunted my every footstep Has been banished by your love. I found something I had never lost I found it in your eyes I found the book of love and truth And tore out all the lies. The knife that ripped me is thrown away The teardrops all but ceased And joy immeasurable has filled me up Beauty's killed the beast.

DANCING LIKE DELILAH

Dancing like Delilah

Dancing like Delilah danced
In robes of silken red
As she swirled to charm the secrets
Out of Samson's head.

Singing like a nightingale
In a quiet Parisian square
Songs to trap the wildest heart
And mesmerize me there.

Smiling like the Mona Lisa
Mysterious, nonchalant
Enticing me with cool indifference
While all your beauties flaunt.

Running down those silver streets
With rain about you falling
Turning to look back at me
With sweet entreaties calling.

Why must you taunt my gentle heart
And play your wicked games?
You, who hold my gifts of love
And will not speak my name.

I am a poor man, rest assured
Not rich by any means
I do not dare to touch the stars
Or live in lofty dreams.

But you, my love, you are my dream
I crave and want you so
And though you sway beyond my reach
I will not let you go.

Beguile me, yes, seduce me, yes!
In your darkness I will dance
Sing to me and charming be
But give my heart a chance.

For lost was I that fateful night
In moon's glow, my eyes fell
Upon your form and fairest face
And my life was plunged to hell.

A swirling dervish in female form
Your eyes, come-hither bold
I felt your fire on that garden path
Consume away my cold.

A madman you have made of me
A thing of teasing's tool
Though I am known for wit and wisdom
Of me, love's made a fool.

All of my secrets I would tell
If you, my love, would ask
I'd climb the highest heights for you
Perform the lowest task.

But you stand there with parted lips
And rip my soul in two
Turn your back and softly laugh
"I have no need of you."
