The Cat Slinks
the cat slinks across the emerald expanse
of backyard jungle pretending
to be a great explorer, hunter, stalker
of fish and fowl and mockingbird
he stops, licks his paws of anything earthen,
co-ordinates his whiskers and sets them on stun
eyes squinted in case the enemy
should catch the yellow glow in the darkness
he chuckles inside himself as he
spots an uninvited guest there by the pool
aha! he whispers in feline french
and crouching like a tiger low on his belly
he inches his way over to the teal blue water
looks over the edge and sees himself.
