The Eagle Is In Flight
The eagle is in flight, he said
And it made my heart beat so
I wanted to catch him in my arms
And never let him go.
The dream caster from beyond the sea
Is casting out his net
Trying to snare a treasure there
The one he's never met.
He needs her sweet and soothing voice
To whisper in his ears
To placate his need for wanderlust
And calm his waking fears.
The games afoot but what a game!
That only two may play
Dancing in the cosmic realms
That knows not night or day.
But every hour is torturous
And every second, sin
When they can't touch what they need so much
A beginning and an end.
An ending of the longing
A beginning of the joy
As each has sought what can't be bought
Since they've been that girl and boy.
His prayers are filled with her dark eyes
Her eyes are filled with tears
Crying rain down on his soul
So arid now for years.
How do you feel without a touch?
How do you love a ghost?
How do you see with eyes wide shut
What can't be seen by most?
I do not know these answers
I do not understand
I only know I want him so
This wild and wondrous man.
The one I've named The Eagle
This magic man of dust
I dream to meld myself with him
And somehow know I must.
For if can't, the day will come
As I hunger for his kiss
That all of me will melt away
Like the early morning mist.
And I'll hang there in the midnight
Just a pair of weeping eyes
Spectral form without hands and arms
To hold him when he cries.
The eagle is in flight, he said
I'm soaring or'er the sea
And oh, God, I pray, let this be the day
That he finds his way to me.
