Love Makes You Beautiful
I wasn't born pretty
Not in the conventional way
I felt plain and forgettable
And I didn't feel loved.
I grew to be pretty
But still forgettable
In crowds of other pretty girls
Who would notice me?
And then one day
The whole world changed
And the mirror showed a new reflection
When the alchemy of love did it's magic on me.
My eyes shone,
My mouth laughed,
My lips smiled
As you told me you loved me.
"How beautiful you are!" you said
And beauty changed the contours of my face
It radiated with love
And began to beam like sunshine, warm and bright.
I loved you so much
I forgot to eat,
Forgot to sleep,
Forgot to cry.
Even the thoughts in my head
Spoke in your voice
Walked in your dreams,
Talked to me tenderly.
Love can do that...
Transform, transfigure, redefine
Love can pull life out of death,
Make gold out of air.
Look what it's done for me
The plain and un-pretty
The forgettable and un-loved
It changed the way I always saw myself
For love makes you beautiful.

Voo! Love your poem! It’s so heartfelt. I could actually watch the transformation of this plain, ordinary person, who didn’t see herself beautiful, into one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever known. I know this Girl! I know her strengths and her weaknesses. Her words express her true self from within, where the real beauty and grace come from and shine onto the pages on our screens. And shine they do!
