Don't Talk by Melody Gardot
Wounded By Thorns, Healed By The Rose
She was wounded by the thorns of loving
While trying to hold onto the rose
Listening to lies coming out of her head
That only the heart really knows.
Restless raindrops came pouring down
From vast and violent starless skies
He walked alone through teeming tears
Telling himself truth and lies.
Love flew by and heard the lies
Whispering through the stormy weather
Saw the woman, saw the man
And brought the two lost souls together.
Years of failing all the tests
Always wanting to just belong
Trying their best to get it right
But never failing to get it wrong.
The two of them walking a lonely road
While the clouds let loose above
Their hands touched when their eyes met
Standing, drowning in streams of love.
'Twas supernatural the night we met
Choreographed by God himself
As wounds were healed and lies revealed
By truth till there was no lie left.
The rose of love, of life devoid
Came then to life by love's decree
Sprang forth and watered by our tears
Bloomed inside you and inside me.
We'd never met and yet we knew
Each other's dreams, each other's goals
Without one proof we knew the truth
That had been there waiting in our souls.
Questions answered, questions asked
Our hearts knew what our heads could not
We found ourselves in a tale of wonder
Complete with people, place and plot.
How magical when love appears
When hope is lost and then reborn
On the darkest night of our whole lives
And replaced by the joy of a glorious morn.
The night, a song that lovers sing
The rain, the wine that quenches dirt
The thorns, those wounds that come from loving
The rose, the love that heals the hurt.
