Small Lives

Small Lives

It is hard for people like me
Who have bigger hearts than most
To live such small lives.

It is hard for people like me
Who have such large dreams
Never see them come to pass.

It is hard for people like me
Who have such tirelessly thoughtful minds
To be disdained for the very thoughts we think.

It is hard for people like me
Who have more love in our little fingers
Than a thousand hearts who don't care that they don't care.

Why must it be so, this deadly truth?
This common fact,
This observation made on a daily basis
By those of us with all of the above and yet none of the above.

That is, the dreams that are fulfilled,
The grand thoughts brought to fruition,
The love we've given, returned
The hearts so filled with the yearning for life, given a chance to live?

Why must we live destitute
In a world full of treasure chests spilling over with love?
Why must we dance in our dreams on feet floating on air
And wake holding nothing in our empty arms?

Why must we build the castles in our minds
Only to see them crumbled by reality's hands?
Why must our hearts wither and die, deprived of the thing
That keeps them alive more than blood?

Why must we live like this, helplessly watching
The big tidal waves sweep our dreams off the shore
Why must we live these small, small lives
When there could be so much, much more?

The Eyes Of Old Men

The Eyes of Old Men

We've seen your heart in the eyes of old men
Taken under your wing every now and again
You gave them a home and a laugh, and a meal
You gave them a refuge and some peace they could feel
God was pleased with your compassion, I know
I don't need anyone to tell me it's so.

You grew up strong and you grew up wild
To your parents, a gift and an only child
You got their blessings and cursings, too
For their only desire was controlling you
But you honored them with all that you had
Even though it would often make other folks mad.

When I was a child, you were busy and gone
And left us there often in our hills and our home
At times you were hard and seemed to us, cruel
Provoked and provoking us like we were tools
At times you were gentle and spoke with a soft voice
And we wondered what happened when you made that choice.

You were such a strong bodied and willful man
Guiding us all with your strong, willful hands
Even now as you lie there all broken and weak
You're still making us cower like we're tiny and meek
We try hard to honor you just as much as we can
But we take our guidance now from Heaven's strong hand.

Father, up there You must know just how much
We struggle and long for our Dad's gentle touch
A word of concern, or a soft loving glance
Some interest in our lives. Is there any chance?
Please reach down, I beg You and open his heart
For all we are growing is farther apart.

For we are, as those old men, so lonely and cold
Friendless and untouched, much like things bought and sold
Betrayed by his hard looks, cruel laughs and mean words
Orphaned by his father's heart. Oh, Lord, it's absurd!
We are cut to the quick till the tears sting our eyes
While we reach out in vain for his love like a prize.

Oh, Lord, hear the prayers in our unhealed childish hearts
Resolve and restore before death pulls us apart
We've waited so long for a Daddy that cares
And who smiles with his eyes and doesn't pierce with his stare
We just want the same love that we know he has shown
Open armed to the outcasts, to these outcasts at home.

Daddy, we've seen your heart in the eyes of old men
Homeless old beggars, and you took them in
But Daddy, we need you, to look now at us
Your children, grown up in a world without trust
Trusting in God now to guide from above
But we still need your kindness, we still need your love.

Look now upon us, six trees standing tall
We are your children, you fathered us all
But we need a daddy and we need a friend
And all of those things that you've never been
We're motherless now and soon you'll be gone
While there's time, won't you reach out and make us feel at home

In the eyes of an old man...............

For our dad
who died in 2014
Don't know if he ever read this or not
but we sent it to him
There are 4 of us left now
and he never made his peace with us

Love Come...love this so much

Earthrise

May It Be..2Cellos

Earthrise

I stood on the new moon
And I watched the blue earth rise
With forests of green
And bright clouds in her eyes

I saw how she danced
In orbital glee
I saw that she loved the wide skies
And the sea

I watched her embrace
All the colors of man
Knew she'd been created
Before they began

Saw how she formed
Was molded with love
Saw how the light came
From the light source above

I felt in my heart
How the Creator knew
That his creatures of clay
Would cleave his heart in two

Like my brothers before them
Many servants, beloved
We saw their lights fade
As they were banned from above

And yet he created
And gave man that place
Earth's garden of Eden
With such love on his face

And the earth was his treasure
In the vast universe
And he taught man his poetry
Each line and each verse

And he taught them his songs
And Earth applauded for joy
As it received all the wonders
That his hands did employ

Till the brightness went dark
And the faces of men
Hid themselves in the shadows
As they chased after sin

And the plowshares, to weapons
Turned the wonder to wrath
And the Creator's head bowed
As his heart tore in half

And I know how he feels
For my heart's breaking, too
For the forests' shorn foliage
And the skies, rarely blue

I loved all the colors
That sprang from his hand
On the earth, every planet
And the variety of man

They've forgotten what joy is
They've forgotten to feel
That they are a family
Though they're his family, still

And the earth is unhappy
And has fallen to fear
Mourning for mankind
And the love that lived here

For I am an angel
That watched the earth form
Saw the sun set in evening
And then rise in the morn

I beheld all the miracles
That were bestowed from above
Yet few of Earth know me
Because my name is Love

Love, scorned by Hatred
And with Hatred, replaced
Took the loving from living
And man's sweet smiles, erased

Dark ages came, dark ages are
And ever more will be
Unless the darkness in men's souls
Will turn and call for me

I'm told that all can be made new
Some bright and happy day
When the dark has run it's wicked course
And no longer has it's way

For eons long, we've waited
My brothers, just like me
To see that sad old world made new
And the hearts of men, made free

Tonight, I stand on the ancient moon
With teardrops in my eyes
Watching through that darkness, waiting
To see a new Earthrise.
