UNOPENED BOXES

uNoPeNeD BoXeS

Hearts are like unopened boxes, you see
Packages on Christmas lying under the tree
They're worth more than gold but their contents are free
Hearts are like unopened boxes.

Hearts are like unopened boxes, it's true
There's an unopened box within me, within you
And the box can be golden or be made to turn blue
Hearts are like unopened boxes.

Hearts are like unopened boxes, I think
Empty sometimes or filled to the brink
Cookies from home or some sweet wine to drink
Hearts are like unopened boxes.

Hearts are like unopened boxes, I know
Some full of joyful and some full of woe
Scratched up old records or torn things to sew
Hearts are like unopened boxes.

Hearts are like unopened boxes, that's right
Exposed when they're open, and when closed, dark as night
And only true love can bring the gifts there to the light
Hearts are like unopened boxes.

  1. Hearts are like an unopened puzzle box. The picture on the box is very appealing, but the contents will be the most tangible. Each piece in the box can be held in your hand. “Careful! Don’t bend them. Each piece is delicate!”

Carefully opening it so you don’t spill the pieces all over the floor, you take each piece and turn it over so the best side is looking at you. As you survey all the pieces you study them to determine where to begin piecing them together. It will take patience. Possibly quite a bit of time as well. But don’t rush to finish it. It’s not going anywhere. As you spend time with it you begin to see something you haven’t seen before. It’s coming together! It’s taking shape. Each piece is getting you closer to what you’ve been anticipating.
And when the last piece is placed, you can sit back, satisfied! Satisfied that you gave it the patience, time, and effort to put it together! To see it even more beautiful, and colorful than before. All because you were patient.
Hearts should be approached like a puzzle box. Carefully opened. With the anticipation of something beautiful coming from it.

    I loved your poem!

  3. The fun part was piecing her together. Because she is now stronger than before because she's now all together! More beautiful than before.

Just thought I'd add something else to it all. And to keep you looking! Keep looking!
